The North American Butterfly Knowledge Network

A new project will soon be launched to provide access to multiple sources of butterfly knowledge, including butterfly monitoring data and life history and ecological data. The map below highlights some of the most important monitoring programs in North America. The biggest program, run by the North American Butterfly Association (NABA) includes survey sites throughout North America (black dots on map). In addition, several state-wide programs (outlined in red) and academic programs (hatched red) also regularly collect data along set transects. Many of these programs have been running for years and the data are greatly under-utilized. The goal of this new project is to determine the best way to aggregate and dessiminate these data and provide supporting information to make the best use of the vast stores of butterfly data and knowledge continent-wide.

STAY TUNED!
