My main interest is to understand the mechanisms by which neurotransmitters regulate neuronal activity in the brain. Using the olfactory system as our model and a combination of electrophysiology, imaging and molecular biology techniques we study how neuronal circuits in the olfactory system are modulated by chemical signals from other parts of the brain and how these signals shape olfactory processing and behavior. In addition, we study how newly generated neurons are integrated in the adult brain and their role in odor-mediated behaviors. In addition to my research interests I have a strong commitement to the trainning and mentoring of young scientists.
