On Oct 18 2015, we held an open house tour as part of our local Apple Harvest Festival at the Appalachian Fruit Research Laboratory, USDA-ARS in Kearneysville, West Virginia. We hosted more than 200 students, teachers, and parents. As part of these tours, we highlighted our NSF projects.

In August 8-12 2016, we held a bioinformatic workshop for high school teachers on the campus of Univ. of Maryland. Most participating teachers came from Prince George County Public Schools of Maryland. A few teachers brought two students along. The weeklong workshop covered a wide range of topics including DNA barcode, phylogenetic analysis, GMO crops, gene expression analysis, gene annotation, and CRISPR. The teachers also visited the NGS sequencing facility on campus.
